Now, six years later, Half-Life 2 is upon us, and it's unbelievably and almost unbearably good. No one can seriously counter the claim that Half-Life was a watershed moment in gaming history, and indeed, its popularity is part of that legacy, as it spawned the most fertile mod community in the modern FPS community. Many of us probably recall sleepless nights shortly before our Thanksgiving break of that year, as we struggled to get through just one more encounter with ruthless government troops or horrific alien entities before finally getting to bed. There's a final MD generator near there which you can use on the last few striders as the rest of the resistance members shoot at the hunters and striders, including shooting rockets at the striders to stumble them for you.Įdit: I didn't make this, and you don't have to worry about saving every single building (including the sawmill), but the rest of the (non-"Neighborhood Watch"-related) content should be very helpful for strategy.Anyone who played FPS games in 1998 will have fond memories of their first play-through of Half-Life. During the final wave (when the music starts), you may be able to get by with fewer buildings, fighting from closer to the base. Other effective weapons for dealing with hunters include the SMGs alternate fire (grenade bomb), and a full shotgun unloading, 2 at a time (3 double shots), to the hunter's face.ġ0. In addition to one MD on your car, you might also consider hiding another MD in a nearby location, such as behind a train car, or in one of the buildings, so that you can have three or more MDs in play at any given area: Your car, the generator, and the "hidden" spot.ĩ. The HUD showing your car's location will help.Ĩ. Memorize the layout of the valley, where the buildings/caches are, and what direction you're facing. After all (usually only 2) of a Strider's hunters are dead, then get your gravity gun out (with the G key), grab the MD, and punt it at the main body of the strider.ħ. You can also instantly kill a hunter with the alternate fire on the AR2 (the energy ball).Ħ. Catch hunter flechettes with any physics object (usually a log, they're pretty common on this map), and then punt the object back at the hunter to instantly kill it.ĥ. Never leave a supply house without a Magnusson Device on your car's back rack.Ĥ. Supply houses automatically restock after you've been away from them for long enough.ģ. It's not impossible, you just need to apply yourself. You'll never get the "Defense of the Armament" achievement if you skip the fight.
